Why Even Try?

Goal Setting Notebook = Powersheets by Cultivate What Matters

If I scored myself on this month's goals, I'd get a solid D-.

But I know the whole story.
I know the REAL story.

Which is that this past month has been full of abundance, miracles, resiliency, growth, and grace - even if I didn't hit all of my hopeful goals.

But I'm still so glad I set them. And here's why: Setting goals helps us remember and identify what we care about. Setting goals helps point us in the direction of wholeness, and it helps root us in the rhythms that keep us healthy.

Here is a quick breakdown of my January goals and an update on each one:

(Monthly goals)
- Plan for and begin an elimination diet. Because of my autoimmune disease, I've known for a while that I need a reset. So I'm using The Inflammation Spectrum as a guide for an 8-week elimination diet to help me get back to my baseline health! This goal went + is going great. I'm grateful we started!

Finish reading Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership. This book by Ruth Haley Barton is a re-read for me, and I'm taking my time! About halfway through with it.

Celebrate four birthdays well! My husband, my church, my youngest son, + my oldest son all had birthdays this month! I'm so glad I made celebrating them a goal because I felt genuinely present + grateful.

- Write a new rule of life. As a church staff, we're working on developing our rules of life, and I got about halfway through mine!

- Execute Nick's book proposal meeting. One of my 2022 goals is to be a good support person, and I wanted to come alongside Nick this month to work on his book proposal process - but I didn't get to it. The good news is, it's rolling without me! I can't wait for the world to read his words.

- Complete Go + Tell Gals 2022 projections. As a small business owner, this is an important goal. I got the overview done in November of 2021, but I still need to dig in. I am moving this goal to early February!

- Strategize worshipful afternoons. This is a family goal as our 3:30-6:30 has gotten a little chaotic. I am moving this one to February too!

- Create a new worship playlist. I never got to it, but it's not too late!

- Run 55 miles. I ran 53 and feel fantastic about that!

(Quick weekly + daily goals check-in)
Weekly Goals:
- go to the beach (didn't go once this month 😭)
- sabbath (I got two solid sabbaths down)
- datenight (my most consistent weekly goal met because it's just FUN)
- work plan (writing out what I need to get done, when I'll do it, etc. keeps my head on straight)
- social media writing session (I find if I pre-write most of my social media posts, they're more helpful + thoughtful - got that done once this month)
- take a walk (keeps me moving slower + living more present - took once this month)

Daily Goals:
- turn my phone off (this is a daily goal I'll pay the most attention to in February)
- take CBD (I've just started taking two daily doses from Equilibria for anxiety + health reasons - loving it so far)
- take a #lifelike photo (explained here)
- silence (I used to be terrified of silence and God is using it to heal + strengthen my soul - so grateful)
- Bible (no explanation needed)

This is is officially the world's longest No Filter Newsletter. I know I'm always so interested in how other women are going after what God has asked them to do, so I pray it's life-giving to see the same.

Your year matters, your month matters, and so much of what God has called you to is worth trying and trying again.

I'd love to hear about YOUR goals, intentions, and month ahead! Head to this post and comment what worked + what didn't.
